THE GALACTIC HARBOUR
This video shows the movement of cargo into space using a Space Elevator within the proposed Galactic Harbour transportation system, based on number studies prepared by the International Space Elevator Consortium and its members, including Galactic Harbour Associates.
The Galactic Harbour is the unification of Transportation and Enterprise, a transportation infrastructure delivering cargo to space; routinely and inexpensively. A Galactic Harbour is a volume encompassing the Earth Port stretching, in a cylindrical shape, spaceward towards the Apex.
In the near future, with business and commerce thriving, there will be several Harbours operating around the equator, each with a capability of lifting thousands of tons per year. Within the Harbours, businesses will expand beyond the traditional; supporting innovative space businesses. We see a large commerce and industrial region, supported by this new, revolutionary space access transportation system. Some capabilities will be essential, such as Space Based Solar Power systems no longer restricted by huge costs for access to orbit or restrained by rocket fairing sizes. Another purpose is inexpensive access to all planets and moons in our solar system with routine flights from the Apex.
SPACE ELEVATOR TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM SUMMARY
PRIMARY OPERATIONS
The Floating Ops Platform is the home and nerve center for Space Elevator operations. It includes shops, cargo bays, clean rooms, a covered small craft marina and main cargo handling wharf.
TETHER TERMINUS
The cargo is transported from the Floating Operations Platform to the Tether Terminus, there offloaded and then loaded into the Geo Tether Climber.
RIRO WHEEL
The RIRO (reel-in reel-out) allows the tether to control the tether to be reeled in or reeled out to allow the tether to moved up and down or out of the way.
GEO CLIMBER LEAVING TERMINUS
Once the cargo is loaded in the Geo Climber it begins it’s week-long ascent along the tether to the GEO zone.
CLIMBER ARRIVING AT GEO
The cargo arrives at the GEO zone and space tugs wait to move the Climber’s cargo to the client’s GEO destination.
TUG PULLING CARGO
The tug retrieves it’s specified cargo from the Climber and begins transporting it to the client’s destination.
DELIVERING CARGO
The Space Tug will deliver cargo to the client anywhere in the GEO region, nearby or hundreds of kilometers away.
THE TRANSPORTATION ELIXIR
This is the transportation story of the 21st century. Reliable, safe, environmentally friendly and efficient access to space; close at hand.
